Vietnamese weightlifter wins gold at Asian Youth and Junior Championships
VOV.VN - Young Vietnamese weightlifters brought home one gold, six silver, and two bronze medals on the first competition day (December 19) of the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) Asian Youth and Junior Championships taking place in Doha, Qatar.
Female athlete Ka Hoai secured one gold and two silver medals in the women’s 45kg category, taking the lead in the clean and jerk after lifting 86kg.
She won a silver medal in the snatch with 66kg and another silver in the women’s 45kg category with a total lift of 152kg.
In the women’s 40kg category, Hoang Khanh Vy came second in the clean and jerk after lifting 73kg. In total, the overall result of 125kg helped her to bag a bronze medal.
Elsewhere, in the men’s 49kg category, Bui Minh Dao bagged two silver medals in the clean and jerk with 114kg, and a total lift of 204kg. He also took a bronze medal in the snatch after lifting 90kg.
Tran Thi Bac grabbed one silver medal in the women’s 45kg category with a result of 87kg in the clean and jerk.
The 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in the Qatari capital of Doha is a key event for young athletes. This competition offers them a vital chance to display their skills and gain valuable international experience.
The tournament is scheduled to last through to December 26.
