Vietnamese team maintain fourth place, exceed pre-set targets at Asian Beach Games
VOV.VN - The 2026 Asian Beach Games concluded all competition events in 14 sports (15 disciplines) at noon on April 30 local time in China, with Vietnam maintaining fourth place overall.
On the final day, only the women’s beach handball event remained to be contested, and the final sets of medals were awarded.
Vietnam won a total of 13 medals, including three golds, five silvers and five bronzes. Gold medals were won in women’s beach handball (one) and beach athletics (two). Silver medals were secured in open water swimming (two), traditional boat racing (one) and beach wrestling (two).
The Vietnamese delegation included 90 members competing in eight sports, with 54 athletes taking part in 26 events. The team was led by Le Thanh Ha, deputy head of the high-performance sports division at the Vietnam Sports Administration. Before the Games, Vietnam had set a target of one to two gold medals but finished with three, exceeding its target.
China topped the medal table with 24 golds, 18 silvers and 13 bronzes, followed by Thailand (10 golds, nine silvers, nine bronzes) and Iran (nine golds, one silver). A total of 26 delegations won medals at the event.
The competition featured 62 medal events across 14 sports (15 disciplines), including 3x3 basketball, open water swimming, water polo, aquathlon, beach athletics, beach handball, beach kabaddi, beach soccer, beach volleyball, beach wrestling, traditional boat racing, ju-jitsu, sailing, sport climbing and teqball.
According to the Olympic Council of Asia, the next Asian Beach Games will be held in Cebu, the Philippines, with competition slated for March 2028.
