Vietnamese students in Russia show confidence at nationwide sports games
VOV.VN - The All-Russia Vietnamese Student Sports Games in Moscow featured the participation of 800 athletes from 30 university delegations, highlighting the confidence and dynamism of Vietnamese students in Russia.
As spring in Moscow warms, the event was held under the direction of the Party Committee and the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, with support from the Union of Vietnamese Organisations in Russia and sponsors.
Held over one week under the slogan “Proud Generation-Rising Aspirations- Conquering New Heights,” the games provided a healthy platform, promoting sport and encouraging physical training among Vietnamese students in Russia.
The 2026 edition was the largest to date. Athletes competed in eight disciplines, including men’s and women’s football, athletics, tug of war and chess, along with newer events such as Chinese chess, table tennis, badminton and esports. The combination of traditional and modern sports, together with both in-person and online formats, allowed broader participation, including from students in remote areas.
Head of the organising committee Bui Tuan Anh congratulated teams on their achievements and praised the spirit of all athletes, noting good technical quality despite the amateur nature of the competition.
Held at the stadium of MGIMO University, one of Russia’s leading universities, the event provided opportunities for exchange, learning and fair competition, while helping introduce a positive and confident image of Vietnamese students in Russia to international friends.
On behalf of the embassy, Third Secretary Hoang Thanh Liem expressed hope that the spirit of teamwork, solidarity and discipline would be carried into study, research and student activities. The organisation of an event involving thousands of participants also showed the strong organisational capacity of Vietnamese student leaders in Russia.
The event’s slogan was reflected in preparation, team coordination, fair-play competition and enthusiastic support. Awards were widely recognised by athletes and student associations.
With more than 4,500 Vietnamese students studying in Russia, the biennial event is the largest traditional cultural and sporting event of Vietnamese youth and students in the country.
