Vietnamese student sports games kick off in Russia
VOV.VN - Vietnamese students in Russia on April 26 launched their 2026 sports games in Moscow, bringing together nearly 800 athletes from 30 universities across the country.
Organised biennially, the event has become the largest sports and cultural gathering for Vietnamese students in Russia, aiming to promote physical fitness, strengthen community bonds and create a platform for exchange among young people living and studying abroad.
This year’s edition features eight sports, including four new disciplines - Chinese chess, table tennis, badminton and esports. A key highlight is the combination of traditional sports and esports, allowing students in remote areas to participate more easily.
Originally launched as a student football tournament in Moscow in the early 2000s, the event has evolved into a nationwide multi-sport competition since 2013.
The Vietnamese Students Association in Russia says the games not only encourage a healthy lifestyle but also help foster a sense of unity and national identity among Vietnamese students overseas.
With more than 4,500 Vietnamese students currently living and studying in Russia, the sporting event continues to play a key role in connecting the community and maintaining cultural ties with Vietnam.
