Vietnamese shooters improve world rankings following ASIAD 20

VOV.VN - Despite missing out on medals at the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20), Vietnamese marksmen Trinh Thu Vinh and Pham Quang Huy have improved their world rankings in their signature events, alongside a notable rise by Nguyen Thuy Trang in the latest International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) rankings.

According to the ISSF's October 2026 rankings, Trinh Thu Vinh climbed to 28th place globally in the women's 25m pistol event. Her fourth-place finish at ASIAD 20 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, allowed the Vietnamese shooter to accumulate crucial ranking points, though not yet enough to crack the top 10.

At the Games, Thu Vinh scored 585 points in qualifying before finishing the final behind competitors from China, India, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. This marks her second appearance in the top six at a major international competition in 2026, following a sixth-place finish at the World Cup in Munich last May.

In the women's 10m air pistol event, Thu Vinh stands 32nd in the world, while teammate Nguyen Thuy Trang ranks higher at 28th following her sixth-place finish at ASIAD 20, where gold went to Choo Gaeun of the Republic of Korea.

Thuy Trang also holds 41st place globally in the women's 25m pistol event, while teammate Nguyen Thuy Dung ranks 80th. Esha Singh of India leads this category, followed by Yang Jiin of the Republic of Korea and Manu Bhaker of India.

Among male shooters, Pham Quang Huy moved up to 37th in the world in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event after finishing fourth at ASIAD 20. He scored 578 points in qualifying and 20 points in the final, finishing just two points shy of bronze medalist Ghulam Mustafa Bashir of Pakistan. In the men's 10m air pistol event, Quang Huy stands 41st globally.

These shifts in the ISSF rankings show the competitive outcomes of Vietnamese shooters on the international stage.

Although they missed out on individual medals at ASIAD 20, the fourth-place finishes by Thu Vinh and Quang Huy demonstrate that Vietnamese shooters hold competitive ground, though athletes must build greater composure in decisive series to convert opportunities into medals.
