Vietnamese kickboxing champion to take on Thai veteran at ONE Friday Fights
VOV.VN - Vietnamese fighter Huynh Van Tuan will face Thailand’s Chokpreecha in a Muay Thai bout at ONE Friday Fights 155 in Bangkok on May 22.
The event has attracted attention from Vietnamese martial arts fans as Huynh Van Tuan, a former Asian kickboxing champion and two-time SEA Games gold medalist, is set to compete under Muay Thai rules against a Thai opponent on home soil.
Huynh Van Tuan is regarded as one of the prominent names in Vietnam’s professional martial arts scene. After achieving strong results in domestic competitions, he gained recognition internationally with gold medals in kickboxing at the 2019 and 2021 SEA Games, along with the Asian Kickboxing Championship title.
Beyond major tournaments, the Vietnamese fighter has also become a familiar face at professional events, from major competitions in Vietnam to international Kun Khmer tournaments in Cambodia. He drew further attention after winning the Muay Thai Grand Prix (MTGP) belt and finishing runner-up at the Road To ONE Vietnam tournament.
His opponent, Chokpreecha, is a veteran Thai fighter who has won a Lumpinee championship belt and fought in more than 100 bouts. Training at PK Saenchai Muaythaigym, one of the world’s most renowned Muay Thai gyms founded by legendary fighter Saenchai, Chokpreecha is considered the more experienced fighter ahead of the bout.
Huynh Van Tuan is not the first Vietnamese athlete to compete in ONE Championship events. However, he is among the few Vietnamese fighters to compete in Muay Thai, where many top Thai fighters compete.
