Vietnamese athletes secure silver at US Open Table Tennis Championships

VOV.VN - Do Le Van Chi and Do Le Van Linh of Vietnam have won a silver medal in the U15 women's doubles category at the US Open Table Tennis Championships, which is taking place in Las Vegas, the United States.

The Vietnamese athletes failed in the final round after being beaten by strong opponents Mandy Yu and Abigail Yu of the US with a score of 3-2.

According to Tran Canh Tuan, vice president of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation, despite the loss, the result was beyond the expectations of the two young Vietnamese players.

However, the pair still have a chance to win a gold medal at the U17 women's doubles, which will be held on December 20, he added.

This year, the tournament has attracted the participation of 1,478 athletes from 19 countries and territories worldwide, with  total prize money of up to US$68,000 on offer.

This is the first time that Vietnam has taken part in the tournament. Apart from Chi and Linh, it has sent two other athletes - Nguyen Anh Tu and Tran Mai Ngoc - to the event.

The competition will last until December 21.
