Competing on May 2 (local time), K’Duong took part in the men’s 60kg category, which featured 17 athletes and marked the opening event of the competition.

In the snatch, he successfully lifted 125kg across three attempts, finishing in third place. He maintained consistent form in the clean and jerk, achieving a best lift of 157kg, also ranking third.

With a combined total of 282kg, K’Duong secured third place overall, earning a bronze medal - the first for Vietnam’s youth weightlifting team at this year’s championships.

The top two positions went to Chinese weightlifters. Kuang Chengmin took the lead in the snatch with 127kg, while Kang Lixin came first in the clean and jerk with 164kg. Ultimately, Kang obtained one gold medal with a total lift of 290kg, while Kuang bagged one silver medal with 289kg.

Also on the same day, Vietnamese athlete Y Lien participated in the women’s 53kg category but did not reach the podium. This competition saw Peng Tianfeng of China take one gold medal with a total lift of 203kg, followed by Natcha Kaewnoi of Thailand, 195kg and Maria Stratoudaki of Greece, 188kg.

The 2026 Junior World Weightlifting Championships is scheduled to last till May 8. In the coming days, the Vietnamese weightlifting team will continue competing in the men's 65kg, hoping to extend their winning streak.
