Vietnam women’s volleyball team set for busy 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam women’s volleyball team enter 2026 with a packed schedule of major international tournaments.
In 2025, the Vietnam women’s national team achieved several impressive results, including qualifying for the World Championship for the first time and defeating Thailand to win a stage of the SEA V.League. Those results will serve as encouragement for head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his players as they look to continue their progress in 2026.
Within a three-month span from June to September 2026, the team will compete in a series of important tournaments. Strong performances could earn Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates further opportunities to compete at a higher level.
In June 2026, Vietnam will take part in the 2026 AVC Cup in the Philippines. As defending champions, the team qualify automatically. Other participating teams include the Philippines (hosts), Australia, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan.
The presence of the RoK will make Vietnam’s title defence more challenging.
In August 2026, Vietnam will compete at the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in China. The top three teams will qualify for the 2027 World Championship. Securing a place there will be a key objective as Vietnam aim to qualify for the World Championship for a second consecutive time.
At the end of September 2026, the team will compete at the 20th Asian Games in Japan. Three years ago, Vietnam reached the semi-finals, and this time the target is to win a historic medal.
Careful preparation for key targets
With multiple tournaments and specific targets, Vietnam’s women’s team will require thorough preparation in terms of squad selection.
In 2025, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet called up more than 30 players at different stages of training in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games. Vietnam’s U21 team also held training camps ahead of the 2025 U21 World Championship.
The coaching staff have begun blending younger players with experienced members of the senior squad. Established names such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Doan Thi Lam Oanh and Vo Thi Kim Thoa will approach their 30s in 2026. The emergence of younger players such as Pham Quynh Huong, Nguyen Lan Vy, Bui Thi Anh Thao, Nguyen Phuong Quynh and Le Nhu Anh will be important if Vietnam are to maintain their position and gradually move closer to competing with Asia’s top teams.
Since 2022, Vietnam’s women’s volleyball team have continued to make steady progress, reaching milestones never previously achieved. With careful preparation both technically and in terms of personnel, 2026 is expected to be another successful year for the national team.
