Vietnam women’s futsal team targets World Cup dream
VOV.VN - At 4 p.m. on May 7, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team will face Hong Kong in their opening match at the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship, taking place in Inner Mongolia, China - the start of their journey toward the Futsal World Cup.

Over the past month, head coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his squad have trained tirelessly, starting in Ho Chi Minh City, moving on to Japan, and now China, all in pursuit of their World Cup dream.
Drawn in Group B, Vietnam will take on Hong Kong, the Philippines on May 9, and Iran on May 11, vying for one of the top two spots to advance to the quarterfinals. Ranked 29th in the world, 18 places below Vietnam (11th), Hong Kong is not expected to pose a major challenge.
Coach Hoang said the team had prepared various tactical options and would make necessary adjustments based on each opponent.
Last year, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team made history by winning the ASEAN Championship for the first time, defeating Thailand (world No. 5) in the final - a milestone moment. Now, they are aiming for a new one by securing a spot at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup.
Team captain Thanh Hang shared “This is the first-ever Women’s Futsal World Cup, and we’re very eager to be part of it. The whole team is under a lot of pressure, but we’re also highly determined. Everyone is giving their all to overcome challenges and stay focused on this tournament. We will play with all our heart to make the World Cup dream come true, as a gift to our futsal supporters back home.”
