Vietnam wins first two gold medals at World Shuttlecock Championships

VOV.VN - Local athletes brought home two gold medals on the first competition day at the World Shuttlecock Championships held on October 27 in Tianjin in China.

In the men's singles, Ho Phuoc Sang took home a gold medal after defeating a rival from Hong Kong (China) 2-0.

Elsewhere, Pham Thi To Nguyen clinched a gold medal in the women's singles following her victory over her Chinese rival in the final match.

Following these good result, the Vietnamese shuttlecock team completed their target of winning at least one gold medal earlier than planned.

The 11th World Shuttlecock Championships will last through to October 30, gathering together hundreds of athletes to compete in seven categories of men's and women's singles, doubles and teams, and mixed doubles.

This comes after the Vietnamese shuttlecock team dominated the Asian championships with a total of eight gold and six silver medals, thereby topping the medal table.
