Vietnam wins big on first day of Asian Age Group Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnamese swimmers pocketed four gold medals on the first competition day of the 11th Asian Age Group Championships, which is currently taking place at New Clark City in Capas in the Philippines.
According to the competition results on February 26, Pham Thanh Bao brought home the first gold medal for the Vietnamese team in the men’s 100m breaststroke aged above 18 after clocking a time of 1’01”31.
Elsewhere, Tran Hung Nguyen and Duong Van Hoang won two other gold medals in the men's 200m individual medley aged above 18 and medals in the men's 200m individual medley aged 13 to 14 with times of 2’03”35 and 2’08”21, respectively.
The last gold medal won on the first day of the tournament by Vietnam went to Nguyen Huy Hoang in the men's 800m freestyle event aged above 18 with a time of 8’01”65. In addition, the Vietnamese team also grabbed seven silver and five bronze medals.
The Asian Age Group Championships has attracted he participation of about 1,300 athletes from 31 countries, competing in four disciplines such as swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo.
The tournament is scheduled to last through March 9.
