Vietnam wins big at Asian Youth Online Chess Championship 2021

VOV.VN - Vietnamese players have secured four gold medals at the Asian Youth Online Chess Championship 2021 that concluded on October 31.

The most impressive player in boys’ event was Tran Duc Duy, who came first in the U8 category with eight wins and one loss. The boy, who ranked 171st among a total of 209 competitors ahead of the contest, outclassed strong rivals from India, China, Iran, and Kazakhstan to claim the top position.

Elsewhere, Nguyen Quang Minh clinched a gold medal in the U10 category with eight wins and one draw. Another gold medal went to Nguyen Huynh Minh Thien in the U18 category with seven wins and two draws.

The girls’ event saw Nguyen Linh Dan bag home one gold medal in the U14 category after recording seven wins, one draw, and one loss.

The Asian Youth Online Chess Championship is organised annually by the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The 2021 competition was held virtually due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year the event was open to young Asian chess players in various age groups from 8 to 18 competing from October 21 to October 24 for girls and October 28 to October 31 for boys.
