Vietnam U22 players set sights on gold at SEA Games 33
VOV.VN - The national U22 men’s football team is aiming to secure a gold medal at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33), scheduled to take place in Thailand in December.
Preparations for the tournament will kick off in November, with SEA Games 33 regarded as the team’s most important competition this year. In the first stage, Vietnam will compete in the Chinese Football Association (CFA) Team China Panda Cup 2025, an international tournament in Chengdu, China, from November 10 to 19.
The four-team competition will feature strong squads from the Republic of Korea (RoK), Uzbekistan, hosts China, and Vietnam. A total of 26 Vietnamese players have been called up for the squad gathering.
In the second stage, Vietnam’s U22 team will attend a training camp in Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City, from November 23 to 29 before departing for Thailand on December 2 to participate in SEA Games 33.
The men’s football tournament at SEA Games 33 will be held from December 9 to 20. Vietnam has been drawn into Group B alongside Malaysia and Laos, while Group A features hosts Thailand, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste, and Group C includes defending champions Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Singapore.
For the first time, the men’s football competition will feature 10 teams split into two groups of three and one group of four. Teams will play in a round-robin format, with the three group winners and the best runner-up advancing to the semi-finals.
In November, Vietnam’s U22 team will begin their preparation for SEA Games 33 which is considered the most important tournament this year.
