Vietnamese footballers train in UAE for SEA Games, Asian Cup
VOV.VN - The national U23 football team on October 7 departed for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a training camp as part of their preparation for the upcoming 33rd SEA Games in December and the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup.

Acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh made two changes from the original roster due to players’ injuries. Midfielder Dinh Xuan Tien suffered a thigh muscle overload, while striker Nguyen Ngoc My sustained an adductor muscle injury. Both players had to stay in Vietnam for treatment and recovery.
The coaching staff then called up Le Dinh Long Vu of SLNA FC and Nguyen Le Phat of Ninh Binh FC as replacements.
Speaking before departure, the caretaker coach emphasised that the team are following a clear roadmap in preparation for future competitions.
“We are staying on course in preparation for SEA Games 33 and the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026,” said Vinh.
“This October training camp is part of a broader plan that includes multiple stages to assess and finalise the squad. Head coach Kim Sang-sik had provided detailed tactical instructions. The team will focus on improving ball distribution, maintaining proper formation spacing, and creating space behind the opponent's defensive line," he added.
During their stay in the UAE, Vietnam U23 will play two international friendlies against U23 Qatar, scheduled for October 9 and October 13. These matches are seen as valuable opportunities to test the team against high-caliber opponents.
“These two matches will allow the coaching staff to better assess individual potential, adaptability, and identify standout players to report back to head coach Kim Sang-sik as we continue preparations for upcoming training phases,” said Vinh.
