Vietnam U17 rally past Australia to reach ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship final

VOV.VN - Vietnam U17 came from behind to beat Australia U17 2-1 on April 22 and advance to the final of the ASEAN U17 Boys' Championship 2026, where they will face Malaysia U17.

Australia U17 dominated early in the semi-final and opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a composed turn and finish by Becvinovski. Vietnam U17, however, held firm under pressure, gradually took control of the game and created dangerous chances.

The match became tense late in the first half when VAR intervened and the referee did not award a penalty after Sy Bach went down in the box. Shortly after, VAR intervened again and a penalty was awarded following a challenge on Dai Nhan inside the area.

From the spot, Dai Nhan failed to beat the goalkeeper, but Manh Cuong followed up with a header to level the score at 1-1 in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

In the second half, Vietnam U17 played on the counter and found the winning goal in the 60th minute from a well-worked free-kick routine. Nguyen Luc scored the winner with a precise finish after a pass from Minh Thuy. Earlier the same day, Australia U17 played Laos U17 in the third-place match.

With the win, Vietnam U17 will face Malaysia U17 in the final at 19:30 on April 24.
