Vietnam U-17 women to face Australia in Asian Cup quarterfinals
VOV.VN - The eight quarterfinalists of the AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup 2026 have been confirmed, with Vietnam set to meet Australia in a match with a place in the semifinals and a berth at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026 at stake.
The group stage concluded after 18 matches, with China, Thailand, Japan, Australia, South Korea, North Korea, Vietnam and India advancing to the quarterfinals.
After finishing runners-up in Group A, Vietnam will face Australia at 2 p.m. on May 11. The match will be broadcast live on the AFC Asian Cup YouTube channel, while VOV Online Newspaper will provide live text coverage.
The quarterfinal is important as it will determine not only a semifinalist but also one of the tournament’s tickets to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026.
Australia are rated higher than Vietnam in terms of overall strength. However, based on Australia’s performances in the group stage, particularly their 1-1 draw with Lebanon, Vietnam’s chances of winning cannot be ruled out.
Compared with opponents such as Japan, South Korea and North Korea, Australia are considered the “easiest” possible quarterfinal opponent for coach Masahiko Okiyama and his players.
The remaining quarterfinal fixtures are Japan vs South Korea, China vs India and North Korea vs Thailand.
