Vietnam tops medal tally at world shuttlecock tourney

VOV.VN - Local athletes took home six gold medals to finish first in the medal tally at the World Shuttlecock Championships, with the event closing on October 30 in Tianjin in China.

On the first competition day held on October 27, Ho Phuoc Sang bagged a gold medal in the men's singles, while Pham Thi To Nguyen won another gold medal in the women's singles.

Tran Anh Quan and Nguyen Duc Chi continued the nation’s winning streak to bring home its third gold medal in the men’s doubles.

The fourth gold medal went to Phung Manh Tu and Quynh Lien in the mixed doubles. Local female athletes also won two gold medals in the team event.

The Vietnamese team took home six gold, two silver, and one bronze medals to dominate the global tournament. They were followed by hosts China who won four gold medals.

The 11th World Shuttlecock Championships was held from October 27 to October 30, gathering together hundreds of athletes to compete in seven categories of men's and women's singles, doubles and teams, and mixed doubles.

This comes after the Vietnamese shuttlecock team dominated the Asian championships with a total of eight gold and six silver medals, thereby topping the medal table.
