Vietnam to play Indonesia in ASEAN Boys’ U19 Futsal semifinals
VOV.VN - Vietnam will take on Indonesia in the ASEAN Boys’ U19 Futsal Championship 2025 semifinals after falling 1-2 to Thailand in a Group A match on December 25.
After their 18-0 victory over Brunei in their opener, Vietnam started the match confidently and quickly took the lead. In the 2nd minute, Do Tuan Vu capitalised on an early opportunity to score, giving Vietnam confidence to organise tight defence and look for counterattack chances.
Thailand, however, increased the pressure in the second half. In the 22nd minute, Srithong scored to earn an equalizer after a well-executed play, leaving the Vietnamese defence scrambling.
Just one minute later, goalkeeper Kerdngoen surged forward and unleashed a powerful strike from the right wing, putting Thailand ahead 2-1. The quick turnaround visibly affected Vietnam’s morale.
Vietnam pushed forward for an equalizer in the remaining time. In the 35th minute, they appeared to score from a fast counterattack, but the goal was disallowed in a controversial decision when a Thai player was lying near the penalty area without any clear contact.
The absence of video replay coverage from Thai television further fueled debate over the referee’s call.
The match ended 2-1 in favour of Thailand, leaving Vietnam second in Group A. They are set to face Group B winners Indonesia in the semifinals. Despite the defeat, the young Vietnamese players showed encouraging signs, particularly in their fighting spirit and tactical organisation against a strong regional opponent.
