Vietnam to face Thailand in continental futsal clash
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s national futsal team will meet Thailand at the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, after being drawn into Group B alongside Thailand, Kuwait and Lebanon on November 5.
The group is considered manageable for coach Diego’s squad, with Thailand as the main rival while Kuwait and Lebanon are rated below Vietnam in terms of competitive level.
The 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup features 16 teams, namely hosts Indonesia, Afghanistan, Australia, Iraq, Iran, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
The tournament will have two stages: the group stage and the knockout stage. In the group stage, the 16 teams are divided into four groups, playing a single round-robin to determine rankings. The top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals, with the quarterfinals, semifinals and final played in a knockout format.
The 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from January 27 to February 7 at two of the host nation’s modern arenas. The 2026 edition will not serve as a qualifier for the Futsal World Cup.
