Vietnam to play China at Asian Women’s Volleyball Champ semi-final

VOV.VN - Vietnam will take on China in a semi-final game of the ongoing 2023 Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship after conceding a 3-1 defeat to Thailand in the last Group E encounter on September 4.

As Vietnam and Thailand qualified for the semi-finals, they both played comfortably to determine Group E winners.

Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet sent in some substitutes to test their skills ahead the semi-finals. However, hosts Thailand proved to be physically stronger and bring more pressure on their opponents.

In the last minutes of the first set, Thanh Thuy and her teammates took advantage of opportunities and produced a spectacular comeback to overwhelm the hosts.

The second set saw hosts Thailand flex their muscle, capitalizing on their opponents’ mistakes to score. Kiet’s players tried to narrow the gap, but accepted a loss in the end.

There was no surprise in the third and fourth sets that saw hosts Thailand still dominate the game.

Losing 3-1 to Thailand, Vietnam (World No. 40) finished second in Group E and they are scheduled to clash with Group F winners China (World No. 5) on September 5.

Meanwhile, Group E winners Thailand (World No. 14) are to play defending champions Japan (World No.8) on September 5.
