Vietnam to play champions Japan at AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals
VOV.VN - The official draw for the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals was held on October 28 that saw Vietnam play defending champions Japan in Group C.
Alongside Japan, Vietnam will also face the Republic of Korea, and Myamar in Group C.
Group A consists of India, China, Taipei (China), and Iran, while Group B includes Australia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
Vietnam strive to earn a ticket to the 2023 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
It would be a too difficult task for Vietnam to qualify for the 2023 FIFA World Cup, said Tran Quoc Tuan, vice president of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), who attended the virtually held draw ceremony.
To secure the World Cup berth, Vietnam need to enter the 2022 Asian Cup semi-finals, or win the play-off match for the four losing teams in the quarterfinals, if Australia enter the semi-finals.
The competition will see the 12 teams divided into three groups of four, with the first and second-placed teams, along with the two best third-placed teams, qualify for the quarterfinals.
The top five teams in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals will qualify for the finals of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
