Vietnam cruise into AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 finals
VOV.VN - Vietnam trounced hosts Tajikistan 7-0 in a Group B qualifying match on September 29, qualifying for the final round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup 2022.
Vietnamese women looked confident after their 16-0 win over Maldives in the opening game on September 23, giving them the chance to progress into the final round. Securing a draw against hosts Tajikistan that earlier thrashed Maldives 4-0 should be just enough for Vietnamese women to go on, but they did more than that.
With brilliant strikers and midfielders in good form like Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung, Huynh Nhu, Pham Hai Yen and Truong Thi Bich Thuy, Vietnamese women easily took control of the match, attacking their opponents’ goal.
Hai Yen opened the score on 15 minutes before her teammate Bich Thuy extended Vietnam’s lead 27 minutes later.
Meanwhile, the Central Asian team mainly played in their home field and relied on long balls. Yet, their attempts failed due to the loss of speed and physical strength.
In the second half, Vietnamese women continued to dominate the match, scoring another five goals by Huynh Nhu, Bich Thuy (twice), Hoang Thi Loan, and Nguyen Thi Van.
Overwhelming underdogs Tajikistan 7-0, Vietnam stay atop Group B with six points, earning a berth to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals. Coach Mai Duc Chung’s players scored 23 goals and did not concede a single goal.
Vietnam will join 11 other teams to compete in the final round, scheduled to take place in India from January 20 to February 6, 2022.
