Vietnam to host U17, U23 Asian Wrestling Championships for first time
VOV.VN - Vietnam will play host to the U17 and U23 Asian Wrestling Championships 2025 for the first time, scheduled to take place in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province from June 16 to 28.

According to the organisers, the U23 competition will run from June 16 to 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28. Athletes competing in the U23 category will undergo weight and skill checks ahead of the matches starting June 18, while similar checks for U17 athletes will take place before June 23.
This marks the first time Vietnam has hosted a major continental youth-level wrestling championship, a milestone in the country’s sporting history. The host country will field a delegation of 44 athletes, competing across all disciplines: freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman (men’s classical wrestling), and women’s freestyle.
The tournament is expected to attract hundreds of wrestlers from over 20 countries and territories across Asia, with 40 qualified referees from the Asian Wrestling Federation overseeing the bouts.
Ta Dinh Duc, general secretary of the Vietnam Wrestling Federation, shared that it is an honour for Vietnam to host the tournament, especially as the competition programme is closely supervised by the Asian Wrestling Federation.
He expressed hope that the wrestlers would compete with great effort and good expertise, bringing plenty of excitement to spectators.
In May 2025, 30 Vietnamese athletes took part in the Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship in Singapore and they brought home 24 gold medals, finishing first in the medal tally.
