Vietnam secures top position in 2024 Southeast Asian wrestling championship

VOV.VN - Vietnamese wrestlers dominated the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship & Oceania Invitational which concluded on September 29 in Thailand.

Local athletes clinched the top position after winning a total of 29 gold, seven silver, and six bronze medals.

The competition featured events for the U15 and U17 age groups, as well as the main championship division.

Vietnamese wrestlers were placed in top position in the men’s freestyle wrestling events, the men’s Greco-Roman, and in the women's freestyle categories in the championship division.

The tournament provides a chance for athletes to fully prepare for the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which will be held in Thailand from December 9 to December 20, 2025, and the 20th Asian Cup (ASIAD) slated for September 19 to October 4, 2026, in Japan.

Last year, when the Southeast Asian Championship & Oceania Invitational was organised in Cambodia, the Vietnamese wrestling team also took the lead in terms of the overall medal table.

This year the tournament will see the participation of eight Southeast Asian nations and five representatives from Oceania.
