Vietnam to face Thailand in race for U17 Women’s World Cup spot
VOV.VN - Vietnam will take on regional rivals Thailand in Group A of the 2026 AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup, as they aim to secure a place at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
They will also play China and Myanmar in the same group following the official draw held on February 12.
The group is widely considered manageable, giving Vietnam a realistic chance of progressing deep into the tournament.
In the qualification round, Vietnam topped their group after defeating Guam and Hong Kong (China), demonstrating strong form heading into the continental finals.
At the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026, the two group winners and the two best runners-up will advance to the quarter-finals. The tournament will also serve as Asia’s qualifying pathway to the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
Asia is allocated four slots for the global showpiece. As a result, the four semi-finalists at the continental finals will automatically secure tickets to the World Cup. This is also a major goal for the Vietnam U17 women's team to strive for in the upcoming tournament.
The AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place in China from April 30 to May 17.
