Vietnam thrash Maldives 7-0 in 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifier opener
VOV.VN - The Vietnam women’s national team have got off to a strong start in the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers with a 7-0 win over Maldives.

Vietnam played their opening match of the qualifiers against Maldives at 7 p.m. at Viet Tri Stadium on June 29. This was also their first official match since a friendly with China at the end of 2024.
Facing a much weaker opponent, coach Mai Duc Chung’s squad easily took control and scored early. Within the first 15 minutes, Vietnam had already netted three goals, two from Van Su and one from Bich Thuy.
Nguyen Thi Van, Nguyen Thi My Anh, and Ngoc Minh Chuyen then added three more to give Vietnam a 6-0 lead by halftime.
In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung brought on key players Hai Yen and Huynh Nhu to help them maintain match fitness. Vietnam created several more chances, but their finishing lacked precision, with only one more goal coming from Hai Yen. The match ended in a convincing 7-0 win.
Vietnam will take on the UAE in their second group match on July 2.
