Vietnam targets 80-plus golds at SEA Games 33 with strong 1,165-member delegation
VOV.VN -The Vietnam Department of Sports and Physical Training on November 28 announced the formation of the Vietnam Sports Delegation for SEA Games 33, scheduled in December in Thailand, comprising a total of 1,165 members.
The delegation is led by Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Sports and Physical Training alongside three deputy heads.
According to the department’s decision, the state budget will cover expenses for 952 members, including international and domestic flights, excess luggage, accommodation, meals, pocket expenses, visa and passport fees, domestic transportation, and facility rental for training and competition. The remaining 213 members will participate with funding from local sources or private sponsorships.
SEA Games 33 is set to feature 50 official sports with 574 events and 569 sets of medals. Additionally, the host country will organize three demonstration sports: discus, tug-of-war, and aerial sports. Vietnam will compete in 47 sports, aiming to win more than 80 gold medals.
As of now, only four football and futsal teams-men’s and women’s football, men’s and women’s futsal, have not finalized their rosters. The U22 men’s and women’s football teams are expected to bring 31 members each (23 players). Both men’s and women’s futsal teams will include 20 members each.
In all four football and futsal events, the shared goal is to reach the finals.
Originally scheduled from December 9 to 20 across Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, all events planned in Songkhla have been moved to Bangkok due to severe flooding.
Vietnam’s first athletes will depart for Thailand on December 1, with the final group returning on December 21, one day after the closing ceremony.
