Vietnam slip to eighth in AFC club rankings
VOV.VN - Vietnamese football have dropped to eighth in the Asian club coefficient rankings following the early exits of Cong An Ha Noi FC and Nam Dinh FC in the 2025/2026 AFC Champions League Two.
According to the latest club coefficient rankings released by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Vietnam fell to eighth in Asia after both representatives failed to advance in the continental tournament.
The coefficient rankings are calculated based on clubs’ performances over the past eight seasons. The further a club progresses, the more points its national association earns, which affects the number of continental slots allocated.
In the 2025/2026 season, Vietnam had two representatives but neither produced a breakthrough. Nam Dinh FC were eliminated in the group stage, while Cong An Ha Noi FC exited in the round of 16 after losing to Tampines Rovers.
For the current season, Vietnam collected 8.667 points, well behind Singapore’s 14.167. Over the eight-season cycle, Vietnam accumulated 38.020 points, compared with Singapore’s 38.561, and were overtaken in the standings.
Indonesia are close behind, while Thailand remain Southeast Asia’s highest-ranked association and sit third in Asia.
The drop directly affects the number of continental places available in future seasons. A lower coefficient reduces the chances of Vietnamese clubs qualifying for competitions such as the AFC Champions League Elite.
