Vietnam set for four int’l women's volleyball tournaments in 2026
VOV.VN - The Vietnam women's national volleyball team have begun training for four major international tournaments in 2026, aiming to maintain their position among Asia’s top sides.
The scheduled plan was unveiled at the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam's meeting with coaching staff and players on May 25 ahead of the national team’s 2026 campaign.
According to the federation, the team’s key international assignments this year include the AVC Cup 2026 (Philippines, June 6–14); the SEA V.League 2026 (Stage 1 in Vietnam, July 31 to August 2, and Stage 2 in Thailand, August 7 to 9); the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship 2026 (China, August 21–30), and Asian Games 2026 (ASIAD 20 Japan, September 16 - 22).
Vietnam followed a similar competition schedule three years ago during preparations for the 2023 Asian Games, when the women’s volleyball team achieved several breakthrough results.
Coaching staff have already submitted detailed preparation plans and performance targets for each tournament to sports authorities ahead of the training camp.
With only around four months available for intensive training and competition between June and September, players are expected to maintain peak form and strong determination throughout the preparation process.
A key objective for head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his squad is to defend Vietnam’s fourth-place finish at the Asian Championship and retain a top-four position at the 2026 Asian Games.
Vietnam previously secured fourth place at the 2023 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship and the 2023 Asian Games, results widely considered historic achievements for Vietnamese volleyball.
However, competition across Asia has intensified significantly over the past three years, with many regional teams making rapid technical and tactical improvements.
Le Tri Truong, vice president and general secretary of the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam, said the national team’s core objective at the 2026 Asian Games is to remain among Asia’s top four teams.
Vietnamese sports authorities are also closely monitoring preparations across national teams ahead of major multi-sport events, with performance targets now playing a significant role in determining international participation opportunities.
Coaching staff have called up 14 players for the 2026 AVC Cup, and among them are prominent players such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Khanh Dang and Tran Thi Bich Thuy.
Fitness expert Karl Lim has arrived in Vietnam and begun working with the Vietnamese players in Bac Ninh province.
