Vietnam qualify for AVC Volleyball Continental Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnam have officially secured a place at the AVC Volleyball Continental Championships (Women) 2026, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) confirmed on February 6.
According to the AVC, Vietnam are among 12 teams that will compete at the continental tournament to be held in Tianjin from August 21 to 30. The other participating teams are Australia, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
The AVC said the stakes will be high, with the tournament champions earning a direct qualification spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. In addition, the top three teams will secure berths at the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, significantly raising the level of competition across the field.
Further details on the competition format, draw ceremony and match schedule will be announced at a later date, the AVC added.
Vietnam’s best-ever finish at the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship was fourth place in 2023.
As Asia’s premier women’s volleyball event and a key qualifying pathway for both the Olympics and the FIVB World Championship, the tournament is expected to present a major challenge for head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team in 2026.
Earlier, the AVC also confirmed Vietnam’s participation in the 2026 AVC Cup, which will take place in the Philippines from June 6 to 14. While considered a lower-tier competition compared to the Asian Championship, the AVC Cup offers valuable opportunities for teams to earn world ranking points.
