Vietnam returns empty handed from 2024 Paris Olympics

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese sporting delegation departed the 2024 Paris Olympics and went home empty handed after their final athlete failed to advance to a podium position on August 8.

This comes as canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong was the final Vietnamese athlete at the games as she competed in the women's C1 200m event.

In the qualification stage, Huong was up against five players from Spain, Ukraine, Canada, France, and Hungary, ultimately finishing last with a time of 49.74sec.

She then dropped to the playoff against seven others, with Huong finishing with a time of 49:09, being placed in sixth and officially dropping out of the tournament.

This year saw the country send 16 athletes to the 33rd Olympics, competing in 11 sports. The best results went to shooter Trinh Thu Vinh who finished in fourth in the women's 10m air pistol and seventh in the 25m pistol, whilst the rest failed to make the finals.

This marked the country’s second consecutive Olympics edition without a medal.

The next Games are due to be held in Los Angeles ahead in 2028.
