Vietnam lose 2-3 to Indonesia in ASEAN Futsal Championship 2026 semifinal
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s national futsal team on April 10 lost 2-3 to Indonesia in the semifinals of the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2026, missing out on a place in the final as targeted.
Vietnam made a proactive start. In the fourth minute, Thinh Phat had a chance to open the scoring after Indonesia lost possession near their goal, but his shot hit the crossbar.
Indonesia took the lead in the 11th minute, capitalizing on a coordination error by Vietnam. Kareth scored from close range to make it 1-0, and two minutes later he doubled the lead with a precise strike to put Indonesia 2-0 ahead at halftime.
Vietnam pushed higher after the break. In the 22nd minute, Da Hai reduced the deficit to 1-2 with a long-range effort. However, just a minute later, Indonesia responded as Sanjaya scored from close range to make it 3-1.
Vietnam continued to push forward. In the 30th minute, Cong Dai made a smart front-post run before finishing from a kick-in to narrow the gap to 2-3.
In the closing stages, Vietnam deployed a power play but struggled against Indonesia’s tight pressing defense. Although Vietnam did not play poorly, lapses in concentration at key moments and a lack of precision in finishing led to the defeat.
Indonesia secured a 3-2 win to reach the final, while Vietnam will play in the third-place match on April 12. The other semifinal between hosts Thailand and Australia is scheduled for 20:00 the same day.
