Vietnam lose 2-0 to Japan, miss out on 2025 Women’s Futsal World Cup spot
VOV.VN - Vietnam were eliminated from the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship after a 0-2 loss to Japan in the quarterfinals in China on May 13, thereby missing out on a ticket to the 2025 FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup.

It was a tough quarterfinal clash between Vietnam and Japan, the top-ranked futsal team in Asia. The match saw Japan dominate from start to finish, with the powerhouses maintaining consistent pressure on the Vietnamese goal.
The Vietnamese players struggled to build up play or create clear scoring chances against their well-organised opponents.
Just three minutes into the match, Japan took the lead after Takahashi’s shot was deflected into the net by Vietnamese defender Phuong Anh for an own goal.
Three minutes later, Van Anh made a mistake when she passed the ball to Ikeuchi, and the Japanese player quickly capitalised on the error to put the ball into the Vietnamese net.
However, the Japanese goal was denied by the referee who determined the ball touched Japanese player's hand.
Early in the second half, Japan doubled their lead. After a quick run down the left wing, Oino delivered a pinpoint pass to Egawa, who was left unmarked in the middle. The Japanese No. 9 made no mistake and calmly slotted the ball home to make it 2-0.
In the final minutes, Vietnam pushed forward in a last-ditch effort, employing a power-play strategy, but they were unable to break through Japan’s solid defence.
The result ended Vietnam’s dream of securing a spot at the coming 2025 FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in the Philippines.
