Vietnam lose 0-9 to Spain in friendly ahead of Women’s World Cup
VOV.VN - Vietnam on July 14 conceded a 0-9 defeat in another friendly game against Spain ahead of their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign in New Zealand.
World No.6 Spain flexed their muscle in the first half, putting pressure on World No. 32 Vietnam and scoring two goals by Alba Redondo and Althenea Castillo.
Vietnamese footballers showed great efforts in the second half, but due to physical disadvantages they could not resist strong Spanish attacks and let their opponents score seven more goals. Hermoso Fuentes, Gonzalez Rodriguez, Salma Celeste scored twice before Bonmati Conca completed a convincing victory for Spain.
This was Vietnam’s second loss within a month following their 0-2 defeat to hosts New Zealand on July 10.
The closed-door match got underway in Auckland, New Zealand. This was the last friendly of coach Mai Duc Chung and his students before entering the World Cup 2023 finals.
World Cup matches will begin on July 20. In Group E, Vietnam are scheduled to play reigning champion USA on July 22, Portugal on July 27, and 2019 runners-up Netherlands on August 1.
