Vietnam defeated by New Zealand in women’s friendly match

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national women’s football team lost 2-0 to hosts New Zealand in a friendly game held on the afternoon of July 10 ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

During the initial 15 minutes of the match, New Zealand’s footballers dominated possession of the ball and put together a string of attacks in the Vietnamese half.

In the 17th minute, a mistake by Tran Thi Thu Thao helped CJ Bott to open the scoring for the home team after a long shot.

The Vietnamese women tried to push the offensive line up following the goal against them. However, due to physical disadvantages, the 44th minute saw Tran Thi Thu and Le Thi Diem My unable to stop midfielder Ali Riley passing the ball to Jacqui Hand, resulting in a goal and bringing the score to 2-0 in favour of the hosts.

In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung made several substitutions, bringing Tran Thi Hai Linh and Ngan Thi Van Su onto the field, with their youth, dynamism, and good technique helping the Vietnamese team to improve their offensive strategy.

The 2-0 score remained until the end of the game. Moving forward, the Vietnamese footballers will continue to play in another friendly match against Spain on July 14 in order to test their lineup before the upcoming Women’s World Cup.

At the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Vietnam have been named in Group E and will face defending champions United States on July 22, Portugal on July 27, and 2019 runners-up Netherlands on August 1.
