Vietnam in same group with Indonesia, Malaysia at Davis Cup's World Group III
VOV.VN - Vietnam is in Group A together with Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Singapore at the 2024 Davis Cup Group III events in Asia/Oceania, according to the results of the official draw that was held on June 9.
Meanwhile, the group B includes Thailand, Iran, Pacipic Oceania, Jordan, and Syria.
At the tournament, Vietnam (world’s No.70 in the world) and Thailand (world’s No.69) are the highest-ranking teams among ten participating squads. All the teams will be divided into two pools of five, competing in a round robin format.
The two pool winners will automatically be promoted to the World Group II Play-offs in 2025. They will be joined by the winner of a promotion play-off between the two teams finishing in second place in each pool. The two lowest placed teams will be relegated to Group IV.
The Vietnamese team will play the first match against Saudi Arabia at 18:00 (Hanoi time) in the Jordanian capital of Amman on June 10.
Last year, Vietnam secured silver at the 2023 Davis Cup's Group III Asia-Oceania zone after losing to hosts Sri Lanka in the final match.
