Vietnam tennis team advance to Davis Cup playoff
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese tennis team placed second in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group III and duly advanced to the playoff of Group II which will be held next year.
In the final of Group III played in Colombo on July 29, Vietnam defeated hosts Sri Lanka 2-1.
From July 24 to 29, Vietnam trounced both Saudi Arabia and Jordan 2-1 and they only lost out 3-0 to Iran in their opening match.
Vietnam finished the group in second position, whilst Iran who finished in the top position of Group A, progressed to the playoff of Davis Cup World Group II which is scheduled to take place in 2024.
The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. The tournament run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format.
Currently Vietnamese players are practicing as they gear up for the Asian Games (ASIAD) 19 which will be held in Hangzhou, China, in September.
