VOV.VN - Tran Quyet Chien, world number four and Vietnam No1 player, finished as runner-up at the Three-Cushion World Cup 2022 after being defeated by No.1 seed Dick Jaspers of the Netherlands on February 27.

In the final round held in Ankara (Turkey), Chien was forced to play catch-up with the Dutch player.

Jaspers led 28-14 before the break and then scored a further 10 more after play resumed, scoring 38 points from just 13 shots, an average of 2.923.

With Jaspers leading 47-23, he continued to get three more points to win the game, scoring 50-23 in just 19 shots.

His 2.631 average per shot was his best throughout the entire tournament, while Chien's average of 1.211 was his lowest.

The Vietnamese billiard ace brought home EUR10,000, while Jaspers received EUR16,000.

Finishing second place of the Three-Cushion World Championship also helped Chien to secure  his third position in the billiards global rankings.

Chien entered the final after recording six straight wins, including three in the group stage against Dion Nelin of Denmark and Sameh Sidhom of Egypt, and Robinson Morales of Colombia.

The Vietnamese player defeated Heo Jung-han of the Republic of Korea  and Martin Horn of Germany in the quarterfinals before outplaying Tayfun Tasdemir of Turkey in the semi-finals.

This is the third time Quyet Chien has qualified for the Three-Cushion World Cup finals, and this is the sixth time a Vietnamese player has entered the tournament’s final game.
