Vietnam finish second at SEA U18 & U20 Athletics Championships
VOV.VN - The national track-and-field team won 13 gold, 12 silver and 6 bronze medals, ranking second in the overall medal standings at the 17th South East Asian U18 & U20 Athletics Championships that concluded in Indonesia on November 18.
Vietnamese athletes added five more gold medals to their tally on November 18 – the final day of competition.
Chau Ngoc Quynh Anh took gold in the U20 women’s triple jump with a result of 12m67. Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh came first in the U18 women’s 3,000 m steeplechase after clocking 11’15”74.
Two gold medals went to Luong Xuan Son in the U20 men’s 3,000 m steeplechase for 9’45”78, and Mai Ngoc Anh in the U18 women’s high jump with a leap of 1m74. In particular, Ngoc Anh broke Southeast Asian youth record of 1.73m set in 2012.
In the mixed 4x100 m relay, the team of Thai An, Quang Giap, Pham Thi Quynh, and Nguyen Thi Thu finished first with a time of 45.01 seconds.
Hosts Indonesia topped the medal table with 14 gold, 15 silver, and 16 bronze medals, followed by Vietnam in second place. The Philippines finished third with 11 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze, ahead of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar.
Held from November 13 to 18 at the Madya Athletics Stadium, the championships provided a key platform for young athletes to prepare for larger regional and global events, including the SEA Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics.
