Vietnam fields 32 track-and-field athletes to SEA championships
VOV.VN - Thirty-two Vietnamese athletes arrived in Indonesia on November 13 to begin their one-week competition of the 17th South East Asian U18-U20 Athletics Championships.
Pham Xuan Tien who is 2025 national champion with result of 7m76 in the men's long jump is among outstanding athletes this year.
Mai Ngoc Anh, a silver medalist in the women's high jump at the 2025 Asian U18 Athletics Championships in Saudi Arabia in April also represents Vietnam at the regional tournament.
The coaching board of the Vietnamese youth athletics team sent quality athletes to participate in the event.
This competition provides an opportunity to evaluate the performance levels of Vietnamese athletes against their regional peers and to identify potential talents for upcoming international events, said Nguyen Duc Nguyen, head of the Vietnamese youth athletics team.
At the previous edition in 2024, the Vietnamese team ranked third in the overall medal table, securing 8 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
The 17th athletics championships will last through to November 19 at the Madya Athletics Stadium in Indonesia, helping athletes to prepare for regional and global competitions such as the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Asian Games, and even the Olympics.
