Seven gold medals for Vietnam at SEA U18 & U20 Athletics Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnamese track-and-field team won 7 gold medals after two days of competition at the ongoing 17th South East Asian U18 & U20 Athletics Championships held in Indonesia.
On November 16 Pham Xuan Tien bagged gold in the men's long jump for age group of U20 with an impressive leap of 7m30.
The athlete finished ahead of Adam Haqimi Bin Az of Malaysia who recorded 7m25, and Steefen Mahuse of Indonesia with 7m18.
Tien’s victory marked the seventh gold medal earned by the Vietnamese youth athletics team at this year’s tournament.
Prior to his win, Vietnam’s gold medalists included Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh in the women's 1,500m, Luong Thi Hong Diem in the javelin throw, Bui Ngoc Duy in the shot put, Nguyen Tan Khiem in the javelin throw, Nguyen Xuan An in the men's 400m, and Le Thi Nhu Quynh in the women's long jump.
So far Vietnamese athletes brought home 7 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals, temporarily taking the lead in the medal standing. Hosts Indonesia and Singapore came second and third, respectively.
At the 2024 edition, the Vietnamese team ranked third in the overall medal table, securing 8 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
The 17th athletics championships will last through to November 18 at the Madya Athletics Stadium in Indonesia, helping athletes to prepare for regional and global competitions such as the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Asian Games, and even the Olympics.
