Vietnam U20 women’s goal vs Thailand nominated for AFC Goal of Group Stage
VOV.VN - A goal by Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh in the match between Vietnam U20 women’s team and Thailand U20 women’s team has been shortlisted by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for Goal of the Group Stage at the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup 2026.
According to the AFC, the group stage featured 18 matches and a range of notable goals by young players from across the continent, including powerful long-range strikes, well-worked team moves and technically executed finishes.
Among the selected goals, Thuy Linh’s strike against host Thailand attracted particular attention. The effort demonstrated her awareness, decisiveness in finishing and the team’s persistence.
The AFC noted that football can always produce surprises, as Thuy Linh seized an opportunity from distance and struck a challenging effort that led to a costly error by the opposing goalkeeper, with the ball ending up in the net and serving as a reminder of the danger posed by any attempt on goal.
Other nominations include a direct free-kick by Rinyaphat Moondong of Thailand, a powerful long-range effort by Ri Kuk Hyang of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, a composed finish by Natsumi Tago of Japan and a curling strike by Oydinoy Turgunova of Uzbekistan.
Thuy Linh’s inclusion on the shortlist further confirms the progress of Vietnamese youth women’s football at the continental level. Fans can access the AFC’s official website to vote.
