The draw placed Vietnam in Group A with Germany, the Netherlands and Uruguay. The tournament, organised by the International Handball Federation (IHF), will take place in Zagreb, Croatia, from June 23 to 28, with both men’s and women’s events.
Vietnam qualified after winning the 2025 Asian beach handball championship. The women’s competition will feature 16 teams, including Norway, Greece, Brazil, the United States, Argentina, Denmark, the Philippines, Benin, Germany, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Uruguay, Spain, the Cook Islands, Puerto Rico and hosts Croatia.
Under the format, teams will play a round-robin group stage, with the top three from each group advancing to a second group stage with six teams per group. The top four teams from each group will then progress to the quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals and final.
Germany enter the tournament as reigning world champions after defeating Argentina in the 2024 final.
This will be Vietnam’s fifth consecutive appearance at the event. At the 2024 edition, the team finished ninth overall.
Vietnam also recently won gold at the 2026 Asian Beach Games in China, defeating the hosts 2-1 in the final. The team have since returned home and resumed training ahead of the world championships.
