Vietnam defeat Laos 5-0 in 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifier
VOV.VN - Hosts Vietnam got off to a good start during the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualification campaign after stunning visitors Laos 5-0 in their opening game at Binh Duong stadium on March 25 evening.

Vietnam launched an aggressive attack from the start, completely dominating the game with multiple offensive strategies.
Their continuous attacking pressure from both wings paid off with the opening goal in the 11th minute. Lao defender Sonevilay attempted to intercept the ball but inadvertently set up Ngoc Quang, who calmly finished from less than five meters out, giving the home team the lead.
Striker Nguyen Tien Linh, who replaced naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son in the official lineup, did not score, but Vietnam still had plenty of effective finishers.
After scoring in the match against Cambodia, defender Nguyen Van Vy continued to make an impact, especially as he faced competition for his position from Vietnamese-French player Cao Quang Vinh Pendant.
With little defensive pressure, the left-wing defender from Nam Dinh FC contributed more to the attack, striking a brace to extend Vietnam’s lead to 2-0 and then 3-0.
The visiting players showed clear signs of confusion after conceding the third goal. In the 63rd minute, Hai Long confidently took a shot from just outside the 16.5-meter box. The ball slightly deflected off a white-shirted defender, changing direction and finding the net beyond the helpless goalkeeper Lokphathip.
Near the end of the match, Vietnam sealed their 5-0 victory as Nguyen Quang Hai found the net following a beautiful combination with Nguyen Hoang Duc.
Vietnam’s defense had a comfortable match, with goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu rarely challenged. The home team’s defenders easily neutralized Laos’ ineffective attacks, ensuring a clean sheet.
The 5-0 scoreline marks Vietnam’s biggest win under coach Kim Sang-sik and builds great momentum ahead of their match against Malaysia in June 2025.
