HCM City Women’s FC cruise into AFC Champions League semi-finals

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City Women FC pulled off an incredible comeback, defeating Abu Dhabi Country (UAE) 5-4 in the quarterfinals of the 2024-2025 AFC Women’s Champions League at Thong Nhat Stadium on March 22 evening and therefore qualifying for the semi-finals.

Playing at home, striker Huynh Nhu and her teammates showed great resolve against physically superior opponents.

However, Adubea scored for the UAE side just three minutes into the match before Al Ghafri doubled the lead 12 minutes later. After conceding two early goals, the hosts gradually regained control and created several dangerous chances.

Huynh Nhu managed to put the ball into the net, but the referee disallowed the goal, ruling that the ball had touched her hand. Despite their limited attacking efforts, Abu Dhabi Country still extended their lead to 3-0 in stoppage time, with Tetteh finding the net.

In the second half, the hosts played more proactively, seeking aerial opportunities and taking long-range shots.

In the 63rd minute, K’Thua capitalized on a chaotic situation in the box, tapping the ball into the net. Just three minutes later, Chuong Thi Kieu rose above the defense to head the ball home, reducing the deficit to one goal.

In the 75th minute, Kim Yen made a costly mistake, allowing an opponent to win the ball near the penalty area and set up Tetteh for her second goal of the match.

But just a minute later, Bao Chau struck a powerful volley from outside the box. The ball was so well-hit that, despite getting a touch, goalkeeper Da Cruz couldn't prevent the goal.

The match reached its climax when Hong Nhung fired a half-volley from just outside the box, sending the ball past Da Cruz to level the score at 4-4.

The unthinkable happened in the 90th minute when Alzaabi misjudged a header, inadvertently sending the ball past her own goalkeeper into the net.

Just two minutes later, Hong Nhung found the net again with a header, but the goal was ruled offside. In the remaining minutes, Abu Dhabi Country pushed forward desperately, but they couldn't find an equalizer.
