Vietnam cruise past Bangladesh 3-0 in friendly ahead of Asian Cup qualifiers
VOV.VN - Vietnam delivered a dominant performance to defeat Bangladesh 3-0 in an international friendly in Hanoi on March 26, with all goals scored in the first half, ahead of their AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Malaysia.
Playing at Hang Day Stadium, the hosts controlled proceedings from the outset, showcasing attacking fluidity and defensive solidity in what served as a key warm-up ahead of the rematch.
All eyes were on Brazilian-born debutant Do Hoang Hen, who was handed his first start by head coach Kim Sang-sik. The naturalised striker drew attention even before kickoff by confidently singing the Vietnamese national anthem, underlining his commitment to the team.
Vietnam took the lead just eight minutes into the match. From a corner kick, striker Tuan Hai positioned himself well to tap home from close range, making it 1-0.
The pressure continued to mount, and the hosts doubled their advantage in the 18th minute. Defender Xuan Manh rose to head in from a Quang Hai set piece, capping off another well-executed attacking move.
Vietnam’s dominance was further reflected before halftime when midfielder Hai Long produced a composed finish in the 38th minute after a skilful run, extending the lead to 3-0.
With the result effectively decided, the home side eased the tempo after the break. Coach Kim Sang-sik rotated his squad, introducing several players including Nguyen Xuan Son to test combinations while maintaining control of the match.
Bangladesh struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised Vietnamese defence. Their few attempts were either off target or comfortably handled by goalkeeper Dang Van Lam.
Despite no further goals in the second half, Vietnam remained in control and came close to adding to the scoreline, with late efforts from Do Hoang Hen and Pham Gia Hung striking the woodwork.
The comprehensive win highlights the gap in quality between the two sides and provides a timely confidence boost for Vietnam ahead of their upcoming clash with Malaysia on March 31 in the final round of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
While Malaysia are already out of contention after two defeats, the match is expected to pose a tougher test for Vietnam as they look to build momentum heading into competitive fixtures.
