Vietnam clinches three gold medals at Sanda World Cup 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnamese martial artists delivered a striking performance at the Sanda World Cup 2026 in Macau (China), securing three gold and three silver medals on May 15 – the final day of the competition.
In the men’s 52kg final, Dinh Van Tam defeated China’s Ou Jiaming to claim Vietnam’s first gold medal.
Vietnam secured two additional gold medals through Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy in the women’s 56kg category and Truong Van Chuong in the men’s 70kg division.
Despite their efforts in the finals, martial artists Nguyen Thi Lan, Ngo Thi Phuong Nga, and Hua Van Doan failed to win the games, bagging silver medals in the end.
The coaching board of the Vietnamese wushu team stated that the tournament served as an important assessment event for the country’s top sanda athletes ahead of the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20), scheduled to take place in Japan this September.
The Sanda World Cup 2026, the 11th edition hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), took place in Macau from May 11 to 15. It has attracted nearly 60 athletes from 21 countries and territories worldwide competing for a total of 17 gold medals. The athletes competed in 11 eight categories for men and six for women.
Vietnam sent six martial artists to the tournament and all qualified for the final round.
