Vietnam breaks into world’s Top 30 in women’s volleyball for first time

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team has climbed to 28th place in the world rankings released by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), following a 3-0 victory over Australia at the ongoing Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Nations Cup on June 12.

The result earned the team an additional 3.96 points and marked its highest-ever global ranking.

Vietnam now ranks fourth in Asia, behind Japan, China, and Thailand. Under head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, the team has steadily improved its position throughout the tournament, rising from 31st to 30th after defeating Chinese Taipei on June 8, then to 29th after a win over India, and now to 28th following the Australia match.

Before the tournament, Vietnam trailed Kazakhstan by a small margin, but now leads by 14.32 points. A victory against Kazakhstan in the semifinal match at 5:30 p.m. on June 13 could further boost the team's standing.

Several other teams have also seen notable improvements in the FIVB rankings thanks to their participation in the AVC Nations Cup. Mongolia has moved up to 66th, Iran has jumped six spots to near the Top 50, and New Zealand, previously unranked, now sits at 55th.

Further changes in rankings are expected over the final two days of the tournament, June 13 and 14.
