Vietnam bags five silver medals in chess at Asian Para Games Hangzhou
VOV.VN - Vietnamese athletes on October 26 won five silver and two bronze medals in chess at the fourth Asian Para Games which is getting underway in Hangzhou, China.
Pham Thi Huong (Vietnam) outplayed Rathi Himanshi Bhaveshkumar (India) in the women’s individual standard VI-B1, clinching a silver medal. The gold medal went to Safaei Maliheh (Iran).
Meanwhile, the men’s individual standard VI-B1 saw Le Van Viet (Vietnam) perform well in his games against opponents from Iran, India and Indonesia.
After the first six games, Viet temporarily ranked second with 5 points, only behind Indra Yoga (Indonesia, 5.5 points). Viet played hard against Yadi Sopian (Indonesia) in the last game that ended up in a draw.
The draw was enough for the Vietnamese player to win a silver medal with 5.5 points. The gold medal was presented to Indra Yoga (Indonesia) with 6.5 points.
Three other silver medals for Vietnam were taken in the men’s team standard VI-B1, women’s team standard VI-B1, and women’s team standard PI.
Vietnamese chess players also grabbed two bronze medals in the women’s team standard VI-B2 and women’s individual standard PI.
As of 15:00 on October 26, Vietnam has won six silver and five bronze medals, ranking 22nd on the medal table.
